WHAT EVEN IS SUPERENGAGED?
Anyone that has listened to my podcast will know that 90% of our team at Propellernet say they’re fully engaged, so much so that 98% would recommend working here to other people (result!).
In fact, our people at Propellernet are so engaged that engagement experts at Then Somehow created a new level of engagement just for us: ‘Superengaged’.
But what does ‘Superengaged’ mean…and how do you achieve this new level of engagement?!
Before we get to that, let’s look at ‘employee engagement’. Google this term and you’ll realise that there is no one definition…
Employee engagement champions Engage for Success say:
“…a workplace approach resulting in the right conditions for all members of an organisation to give their best each day, committed to their organisation’s goals and values, motivated to contribute to organisational success, with an enhanced sense of their own well-being.”
Whereas, the Institute of Employment Studies calls it:
“A positive attitude held by the employee towards the organisation and its values. An engaged employee is aware of business context, and works with colleagues to improve performance within the job for the benefit of the organisation. The organisation must work to develop and nurture engagement, which requires a two-way relationship between employer and employee.”
Finally, at HR Zone, their definition of employee engagement is:
“…the emotional attachment employees feel towards their place of work, job role, position within the company, colleagues and culture and the affect this attachment has on wellbeing and productivity. From an employer's point-of-view, employee engagement is concerned with using new measures and initiatives to increase the positive emotional attachment felt and therefore productivity and overall business success.”
So, as you can see there is no right answer – each organisation has its own definition and ideas on what employee engagement means to them. And we’re no different.
Let’s go back to our shiny new engagement category – Superengaged, and how we define it.
A ‘Superengaged’ employee:
Knows their organisation cares for its people and is doing its utmost to ensure their emotional and psychological wellbeing
Has complete faith that the organisation will tell them the truth, while being faithful to it’s own core principals (which, in turn, they feel deeply aligned to)
Feels genuinely challenged, with the appropriate training and support to take on those challenges, and has a clear sense of how they will progress
